Preliminary Examination:

Nature: Objective Type (OMR Based). Screening test only.

Subjects: General Studies (Degree Std. - 175 Qs), Aptitude & Mental Ability (SSLC Std. - 25 Qs).

Maximum Marks: 300.

Duration: 3 hours.

Minimum Qualifying Marks: 90 for reserved categories, 120 for Others. (Marks not counted for final ranking).

Main Written Examination:

Nature: Descriptive Type.

Paper I: Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC Std.) - Qualifying Only (100 Marks, 3 hours, Min. 40 marks). (Differently abled may have exemption).

Paper II: General Studies I (Degree Std.) - 250 Marks, 3 hours.

Paper III: General Studies II (Degree Std.) - 250 Marks, 3 hours.

Paper IV: General Studies III (Degree Std.) - 250 Marks, 3 hours.

Minimum Qualifying Marks (Papers II, III, IV): 225 for reserved categories, 300 for Others.

How to Apply

First, complete the One Time Registration (OTR) on the TNPSC website if you haven't already. This costs Rs. 150 and is valid for 5 years. Keep your scanned photo and signature ready. Linking Aadhaar is mandatory. Use a valid, active email ID and mobile number. Access the OTR platform via www.tnpscexams.in.

Log in using your OTR credentials. Find the notification for Combined Civil Services Examination – I (Group I Services) - Notification No. 04/2025.

Click the "APPLY" button next to the notification.

Your OTR details will pre-fill. Check them carefully. If changes are needed, edit your OTR profile first.

Fill in any additional details required specifically for the Group 1 application. Upload a recent photograph (taken on or after 01/04/2025) with your name and date printed at the bottom, as per specified dimensions and format.

Upload required documents supporting your claims (education, community, age, PSTM, disability, etc.) when asked for, typically after clearing prelims.

Preview your application details carefully before final submission. An SMS/email confirmation of the preview will be sent.

Proceed to pay the Preliminary Examination fee (Rs. 100) online via Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card, unless you are eligible for and claiming a fee exemption. Choose the fee concession option ('Yes' or 'No') carefully.
