The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is recruiting for Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). This is a regular recruitment drive for a total of 357 vacancies. The recruitment notification was released on 05/03/2025. Age Eligibility

The age eligibility for the Assistant Commandant posts is 20 to 25 years as of 01/08/2025. This means the candidate must have been born not earlier than 02/08/2000, and not later than 01/08/2005. Age relaxations are applicable as per government rules for reserved categories.

Two Papers: Paper I and Paper II.
Physical Standards Test/ Physical Efficiency Test (PST/PET) For candidates declared qualified in the Written Examination.
Conducted under the supervision of a Nodal Authority appointed by MHA.
Medical Standards Tests Only For candidates Appeared in the Interview/ Personality Test.
Conducted under the supervision of a Nodal Authority to be appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Appeals will be entertained only against the Medical Standards Tests.
Interview/Personality Test For Candidates qualified in PST/PET and Medical Standard Test .
Conducted by UPSC.
Final Selection/Merit Based on marks obtained in the Written Examination and Interview/Personality Test.
Candidates, who fail in Medical Standard Test after Interview will not be appointed

Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence Description: Questions set in English and Hindi.
Marks: 250.
Duration: 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM (2 hours).
Nature of Exam: Objective (Multiple Answers) Type.
Syllabus:
1. General Mental Ability: Logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, numerical ability, data interpretation.
2. General Science: General awareness, scientific temper, new areas of importance like IT, Biotechnology, Environmental Science.
3. Current Events: National and international importance in culture, music, arts, literature, sports, governance.
4. Indian Polity and Economy: Country's political system, Constitution, social systems, public administration.
5. History of India: Social, economic and political aspects; growth of nationalism.
6. Indian and World Geography: Physical, social, economic aspects of geography of India and the World.
Paper II: General Studies, Essay and Comprehension Description:
Essay component can be written in English or Hindi.
Precis Writing, Comprehension, and other communications/language skills in English only.
Note: Answer in medium authorized by the commission in paper.
Marks: 200.
Duration: 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (3 hours).
Nature of Exam: Descriptive type.
Syllabus:
Part-A (80 Marks): Essay questions to be answered in long narrative form in Hindi or English. Topics include modern Indian history, geography, polity, economy.
Part-B (120 Marks): Comprehension, précis writing in English Only. Topics are Comprehension passages, précis writing.
Note: Minimum qualifying marks separately in each Paper.
Paper-I will be evaluated first. Paper-II evaluated only for those who qualify in Paper-I.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the UPSC Online application portal at upsconline.gov.in.
  2. First, complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) on the website. Registration is needed to done for only one time.
  3. After registering in OTR, proceed to fill out the online application form for the examination.
  4. Upload scanned copies of required documents, including date of birth proof and category certificate, photograph & signature.
  5. Pay the application fee of Rs. 200 online (if applicable). SC/ST/Female candidates are exempted from payment.
  6. Submit the application form before the deadline on 25/03/2025.
